South Korea’s Elite High Schools
One of the dramatic trends in South Korea’s education sector over the past decade or so has been that toward a younger and younger demographic. A decade ago more Koreans went to the U.S. for graduate than for undergraduate study. Today, the grad-undergrad proportions are approximately reversed. Many of those who go overseas for undergraduate study these days are graduates of an expanding group of elite high schools, that includes foreign language high schools and science high schools, among others.
The New York Times today published an interesting article on these high schools. It is recommended reading.
